Travelling to Thassos by car/road/ferry boat
Thassos is served by the mainland ports of Kavala and Keramoti. The city of Kavala and the port of Keramoti are both easy to reach from the Ignatia Odos (European highway E90) which is the main motorway serving the whole of the north of Greece, from Igoumenitsa on the west coast to Alexandroupolis in the east, close to the Turkish border. The E90 provides road connections to all of the Balkans and to the south of Greece and also passes Thessaloniki, Greece’s second city.
The Kavala route to Thassos takes about one hour and arrives at Potamia. This route has a maximum of 5 sailings to the island during the summer months.
The fastest and shortest ferry route to Thassos is from Keramoti and is preferred by many as there are departures every half an hour during the summer and the journey time is only 35 minutes. The boat docks in Limenas (Thassos Town) which is only a 12 kilometre journey to Althea Aparment & Studio. Follow the signs from the ferry port for Panagia to Potamia.
Travelling to Thassos by Aeroplane
Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) is an international airport and has flights to and from most European destinations. From the airport you can either take a bus or taxi to the coach station and from there it is a pleasant 2 hour journey to Kavala. The coaches run throughout the day on the hour. If you choose, you can hire a car from the airport and drive to either Kavala or Keramoti, the journey should take you no more than 2 hours.
